The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region XI joined the National Disaster Resilience Month 2024 regional kick-off on July 3, 2024, at Abreeza Ayala Mall, Davao City. The event, led by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and the Office of Civil Defense XI (OCD XI), aims to promote disaster preparedness and resilience among Filipinos.

Participating agencies included the Bureau of Fire and Protection XI, Department of Environment and Natural Resources XI, Department of Science and Technology XI, Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao, Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao, Bureau of Customs Region XI, Department of Interior and Local Government XI, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices of the Davao Region.

The event began with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and a press conference, where regional directors shared insights on disaster resilience initiatives and readiness. In her message, DSWD XI Regional Director Atty. Vanessa B. Goc-ong, represented by Berlita A. Silagan, Social Welfare Officer IV of the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD). 

I commend all organizers for promoting crucial disaster preparedness and acknowledge the essential collaboration of agencies, organizations, and individuals. As we host this event, let us renew our commitment to advancing disaster risk reduction and management for a safer, more resilient future,” Atty. Goc-ong stated. 

Highlights of the event included an on-the-spot poster-making contest centered on the theme “Bantayog ng Katatagan at ang Pagbubuklod sa Layuning Kahandaan.”
