The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI through the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) held a two-day Cash-for-Training (CFT) as part of the second round of Project LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) and BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency Through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished) on June 29-30, 2024, at the MONCAST Gym in Barangay Poblacion, Monkayo after the successful pilot implementation in the municipality in the year 2023.
The training, led by Ras N. Landigan and Zyra Mae Su-ay, DSWD XI Risk Resiliency Program-Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM) focal persons for Davao de Oro, aimed to educate participants on the agency’s mandate, programs, and services related to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), climate change, administrative requirements, and security protocols.
Theresa Victoria Fe Doroy, Disaster Focal from the Municipal Social Worker Development Office (MSWDO), discussed the agency’s role in disaster risk resiliency programs.
Rocris Glen A. Indul, Officer-in-Charge of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), elaborated on the Philippine understanding of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management under RA 10121.
Michael Angelo Austria, Forester from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), provided valuable environmental and natural resource management insights.
Representatives from the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAGRO) also shared their expertise, with Rhyam Mae Tobial covering tilapia aquaculture, Ryan Sisneros discussing vegetable production and management, and Engr. Neil Harvey Murillo offers insights on constructing Small Farm Reservoirs (SFRs).
The activity emphasized the importance of community resilience, sustainable agricultural practices, and preparedness in disaster risk management, aligning with the goals of Project LAWA and BINHI to empower the municipality through adaptive and sustainable solutions. This initiative underscores the Department’s commitment to enhancing the capacity of communities not just in Davao de Oro but in the whole region to adapt to climate change, manage disaster risks, and ensure food security.
