The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI disbursed a total of PHP 158,393,880.00 through the Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) program to 15,903 eligible beneficiaries in Caraga and Manay, Davao Oriental, from April 12 to 15, 2024.
Spearheaded by the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), this initiative aims to provide financial aid to individuals affected by severe weather conditions in the region. In response to a series of weather disturbances in Davao Oriental, beginning with the Shear Line followed by the trough of a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) from late January to February of this year, the DSWD Field Office XI promptly addressed the request for augmentation of relief assistance in these areas.
The allocation of PHP 9,960.00 per beneficiary family, calculated as 75% of the daily minimum wage in the Davao Region multiplied by 30 days (443 x 75% x 30 days), is the basis for the assistance per family.
Michell M. Osnan, a PWD (Orthopedic Disabled) who resides in Brgy. Lib-og, Caraga, Davao Oriental, conveyed her appreciation for the financial assistance her family received.
“Grabe kaayo ang kalisod namo sauna tungod sa daghan nga ulan ug sunod-sunod nga baha kay wala mi nahimo nga trabaho. Wala mi kwarta nga pangpalit sa pagkaon ug mga kinahanglanon labi na nga naa ko sa condition nga dili ko makalihok tungod sa akoa kapansanan. Tungod ani nga tabang, makapalit na mi sa pagkaon ug ubang materyales aron sa pagpaayo sa among balay ug magamit naku sa akong pagpaayo,” (Our hardship was severe during the continuous rain and floods because we couldn’t work, and we lacked money to buy food and necessities, especially since I’m unable to move due to my disability. Thanks to this assistance, we can now buy food and other materials to repair our house, including the payment for my scheduled therapy), she said.
In the wake of calamities and disasters, the DSWD XI remains steadfast in its support for communities affected by disasters by providing practical assistance as they work to rebuild and restore stability amidst challenges. (DSWD FO XI/RSD)
