In a groundbreaking initiative, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI simultaneously conducted a Blessing and Turnover Ceremony for the new medical tools and equipment in Barangays Sangay and Bolilo, Malita, Davao Occidental on January 24, 2024. 

Community leaders, volunteers, and officials gathered for the blessing and turnover of essential medical resources. Attendees included Merlinda A. Paragamac, Chief of Promotive Services Division; Jan Luke Demetrio, Community Development Officer III; KALAHI-CIDSS staff; the technical working group (TWG) of the project; municipal and barangay officials; and the beneficiaries.

The project, totaling PHP 493,547.05, received support from DSWD XI, amounting to PHP 342,388.80. The Local Government Unit of Malita contributed PHP 147,783.25, with Barangay Sangay adding PHP 3,375. With a noble aim to enhance healthcare accessibility, this initiative is poised to benefit 1,044 households.

Meanwhile, Barangay Bolila received medical tools and equipment amounting to a Total Project Cost (TPC) of PHP 312,565.43, which garnered support from various sources. DSWD XI contributed PHP 163,282.18, LGU Malita added PHP 147,783.25, and the Barangay LGU chipped in PHP 1,500.

Benefiting 1,643 households in total, this concerted effort ensures improved healthcare access for both communities. The ceremonies underscored the spirit of collaboration and community development, emphasizing the significance of partnerships in fostering positive change.

Chief Merlinda A. Paragamac expressed profound gratitude to all involved, highlighting the importance of empowering local communities. The ceremonies symbolized the collective commitment to building healthier communities in Barangays Sangay and Bolila. 

The DSWD’s KALAHI-CIDSS program goes beyond constructing infrastructure and concrete projects in communities. It utilizes various forms and methods tailored to the specific needs of each community, promoting active community participation throughout the implementation process. (DSWD FO XI/EMCJr)
