Davao de Oro, November 30, 2023 – Through the pilot implementation of Project LAWA: Local Adaptation to Water Access in the municipalities of Monkayo and Compostela in the province of Davao de Oro, the farmer association beneficiaries accepted the small farm reservoirs (SFRs) during the turnover ceremony of the said project on November 6 and 7, 2023 respectively.

The SFRs, designed to capture and store rainwater, serve as a beacon of hope for farmers battling water scarcity, particularly during prolonged dry seasons. These reservoirs provide a dependable source of irrigation, enabling farmers to cultivate their crops, enhance their productivity, and ultimately strengthen their economic security.

The turnover ceremonies brought together representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of Agriculture (DA), local government units, and the beneficiary farmer associations.

DSWD Field Office XI Assistant Regional Director for Operations Dahlia S. Padillo underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the affected families of the El Niño phenomenon through food security and social protection interventions.

Project LAWA, a collaborative endeavor between the DSWD, DA, and the United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP), aims to enhance access to water services for vulnerable communities across the Philippines that are affected by El Niño. With the successful implementation of SFRs in Monkayo and Compostela, the project is poised to make a profound impact on the lives of farmers, fostering agricultural resilience and propelling rural development. ### (DSWD FO XI/EMCJr)
