Davao City, August 7, 2023 – The Department of Social Welfare and the Development (DSWD) Field Office XI in partnership with the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) XI launched the Anti-Trafficking in Person Short Filmmaking Competition in observance of the World Day Against Trafficking on July 26, 2023 at the Cinematheque Center Davao, Davao City.

The initiative aims to raise awareness and combat human trafficking through the powerful medium of short films. Filmmakers and storytellers are encouraged to participate in the competition by creating compelling narratives that shed light on the realities of trafficking and the importance of preventing this heinous crime.

“Using this platform, particularly the use of social media, we may be able to convey a strong message not only to identify the victim but also to make sure that everybody in the community from the barangay level up to the macro level will be able to know the ill effects of trafficking in person,” Regional Prosecutor Janet Grace B. Dalisay-Fabrero said in an interview during the event.

The DSWD Field Office XI Regional Director and Co-chairperson of the IACAT XI, Atty. Vanessa B. Goc-ong emphasized how this contest helps the council combat trafficking in the region. “This short filmmaking contest is not just an avenue to showcase in a creative and agile way to make our materials effective in raising awareness but also encourages everybody to be vigilant. Also, for all of us here to reimagine how to empower our stakeholders to collaborate, innovate, and drive our campaign forward.”

Film enthusiasts and filmmakers may visit their provincial anti-trafficking focal persons for the complete details of the competition. ###
