DSWD XI joins the relaunching of Sustainable Livelihood Program

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office XI, joined the official relaunching ceremony of the new Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) on May 26, 2023, at Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.

The said activity was led by the DSWD Secretary Rex T. Gatchalian, together with Pasay City Mayor Hon. Imelda Calixto-Rubiano ang SM Supermalls President, Steven Tan. At the same time, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian led the unveiling of the new logo of the Sustainable Livelihood Program and the ceremonial signing of a partnership agreement with SM Supermalls for social protection initiatives and other activities.

Ms. Maria Dolores Placa, President of Deca Homes Women’s SLP Association from Davao City was chosen to represent the Mindanao Cluster to share her experience as beneficiary of the program. “Thank you Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) DSWD! Thank you for giving us this opportunity to grow and progress for economic advancement and empowerment, mind- setting our general membership on entrepreneurship efficiency while working and doing things harmoniously, and the development of the sense of integrity through ‘Bayanihan’ and volunteerism.”

The Field Office also set up a booth which showcased the various products of SLP beneficiaries in Davao Region. DSWD XI was represented by SLP Regional Monitoring and Evaluations Officer for Finance Arthur Diaz, Regional Training Officer Jenny D. Bandola and Regional Social Marketing Officer Raul Adrebon D. Malinao.

DSWD XI association receives P310K-worth baking equipment from DOST XI 

A DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program association recently received a Php310,000.00-worth of baking equipment from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XI, through their Community Empowerment Thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program, on May 22, 2023. 

The Center Sirib Bakeshop SLP Association located at Barangay Sirib, Calinan, Davao City received 1-unit Gas-Fired Double Deck Baking Oven, 1-unit Spiral Mixer, 1-unit Dough Roller, 2 units cooling racks. This move aims to improve the quality of their baked products and for them to be able to expand in the future. 

DOST- CEST is one of the banner programs of DOST that aims to deliver sustainable development to various communities. According to DSWD Field Project Development Officer II Mr Luis Seras, Center Sirib SLP Association is very grateful to DOST for choosing the association as one of the beneficiaries of the program.

The Center Sirib Bakeshop SLP Association, also known as “Pan de Sirib” and composed of 25 members, received Php250,000-worth of seed capital from SLP in 2019. 

SLP aims to improve the economic well-being of the vulnerable, marginalized, and disadvantaged individuals and families in communities by mobilizing and empowering them through the support of the local government units and other government agencies.

DSWD XI and NDA funds milk production in Marilog, Davao City

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office XI and National Dairy Authority (NDA) Southern Mindanao led the ceremonial launching and turnover of P1.6 million worth of milking cows and equipment for milk production to the members of Salaysay Dairy Farmers’ SLP Association at Barangay Salaysay, Marilog, Davao City on May 16, 2023.

A total of P 1.2 million from NDA was used to purchase high quality milking cows. Meanwhile the Php 435,000.00 seed capital from DSWD was used to buy milking and transport equipment like multicab, freezer, etc.

The launch was attended by DSWD XI Promotive Services Chief Elizabeth T. Degorio, Zero Hunger Focal Phyllis Laine M. Venus, SLP Davao City Coordinator Julius R. Duterte, together with NDA National Director Dr. Gabriel Lagamayo, OIC of NDA Northern Mindanao Marlon C. Flores and the barangay local officials of Salaysay.

This partnership effort was made possible through the implementation of Zero Hunger Program, a priority program of the national government under the Human Development and Poverty Reduction Cluster wherein the Department is a participating agency. The Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger formulated a National Food Policy (NFP) to outline national priorities based on a comprehensive understanding of the problem of hunger and related issues, and to provide a roadmap for achieving zero hunger.

DSWD XI opens two poultry production project in Malita

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI recently opened two poultry production projects at Barangay Buhangin, Malita, Davao Occidental on May 20, 2023.

A total of Php 720,000.00 worth of livelihood capital was given to 48 members of BIBU 4Ps SLP Association and BBUTS SLP Association. Each association received Php 360,000.00.

This effort was funded through the implementation of Sustainable Livelihood Program under Zero Hunger implementation.
