Davao City (DSWD XI) – Workers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) delivered and distributed family food packs and non-food items last Friday and Saturday to families affected by the August 28 flashflood incidents. 

Per DSWD Disaster Report, some 3650 families were already assisted in Los Amigos and Talomo areas following a rapid assessment on Thursday. DSWD continues its distribution in Bangkal, Matina Pangi and Catalunan Pequeño areas Monday and Tuesday to over 3000 affected families. 

Starting August 29, staffs of DSWD disaster response division were deployed in all flood affected barangays to assist in validation and assessment of affected families and to continuously coordinate with CSSDO for other needed social services. In this recent disaster, a total of 31,004 individuals were affected.

In any disaster operation, DSWD provides augmentation support in the relief operations of local government units.  Each DSWD regional office all over the country prepositions some 30,000 family food packs and maintains a quick response standby fund of Php 3 million at any given time. (DSWD)
