DSWD XI, BJMP XI ink partnership for livelihood-fu DSWD XI, BJMP XI ink partnership for livelihood-funded associations’ market linkage

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office XI, through its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) XI last July 15, 2022, at DSWD Field Office XI, Davao City.

DSWD XI Regional Director Atty. Vanessa B. Goc-ong and BJMP XI Regional Director JCSUPT. Isabelo Cartin Jr. led the signing of the MOU, which aims to give qualified community-based SLP Associations in the Davao Region possible market opportunities in BJMP.

This effort is in line with BJMP’s commitment to the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) program, in eradicating hunger, ensuring food and nutrition security, and reducing poverty in urban and rural communities through synergy and convergence of essential services from different government agencies.

Moreover, this is also part of the monitoring and capacity-building efforts of the SLP to existing SLP Associations throughout the region.

The MOU initiative was a result of the inspiring story of the POBAHORA SLP Association of Lupon, Davao Oriental. The said notable association became successful after establishing its partnership with the BJMP last 2020. They now act as the supplier of vegetables, meat, and eggs to BJMP Lupon District Jail.

SLP is a community-based capacity-building program that aims to improve the socio-economic condition of poor Filipinos by providing them sustainable livelihood options through two tracks: Micro-enterprise Development, and Employment Facilitation.
