EMERGENCY SHELTER AID FOR DAVOR

EMERGENCY SHELTER AID. Beneficiaries flood the gymnasium of Caraga town to claim the emergency shelter assistance (ESA) from the DSWD worth 10 thousand pesos intended for the repair of their damaged homes. The beneficiaries are among the first batch of recipients who were prioritized based on the severity of damage on their homes. These beneficiaries have undergone meticulous interview sessions and evaluation, thus establishing fairness in the distribution. A total of 1386 families with partially damaged homes in the towns of Caraga, Manay, Cateel, Baganga, Boston, Tarragona and the City of Mati received the ESA. PIO-DAVOR

DSWD BRACES FOR 2ND ROUND ASSESSMENT OF POOR HOUSEHOLDS

DAVAO City -The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTSPR) is now coming up with the final list of successful applicants for the upcoming household enumeration.

DSWD Human Resource personnel and NHTSPR staff conducted interview and screening to more than 3,000 applicants in the four provinces and one city in Region XI, namely;  Compostela Valley, Davao Del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao Del Norte, and Davao City.

“We are now preparing everything since September is fast approaching. The Final List of hired field workers will be posted and disseminated to all provinces,” said Raquel E. Nunez, Policy and Plans Division Chief and NHTSPR Focal Person.

She added that hired applicants, LGUs and Internal Staff will undergo training and orientation before deployment to have a common understanding on the objective of the project.

Screening and typing test for encoders is currently conducted through the initiative of the Regional Information Technology Officer Peter Paul Villaluna to ensure that the encoding of the data reach its target timeline.

“We are conducting a thorough typing test to determine speed, through words per minute (wpm), and accuracy. This is to ascertain that we can reach our target goal and come up with a comprehensive data,” Villaluna stressed.

The NHTSPR personnel are now on the planning and preparation stage since the target households to be assessed have doubled up from the last assessment. This is to make sure that goals and objects of the NHTSPR will be attained. DSWD

DSWD CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL IP DAY

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its program the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program celebrates the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples on August 9, 2013, Friday, at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, Davao City.

The activity aims promote and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population, as well as, recognize the contributions of the indigenous peoples make to world issues such as environmental protection.

The one-day activity will showcase the diverse cultures in Davao Region through a cultural display of the different tribal groups where they exhibit musical instruments, products and other indigenous materials. The celebration will also highlight a symposium where resource persons from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Education (DepEd) and DSWD will respond to queries from the participants. The finale activity will be a cultural show participated by the different tribal groups.

The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples was first pronounced by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 23, 1994 under Resolution 49/214.

The pronouncement of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples encourages everyone to celebrate every year more so that in 2004 the General Assembly proclaimed a Second International Decade from 2005-2015, with the theme: “A decade for Action and Unity”. People from different nations are encouraged to participate in observing the day to spread the UN’s message on indigenous peoples.

In Davao Region, Pantawid Pamilya covers 72,550 IP beneficiaries in all four provinces. That is, 38.5% of the total 188,501 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries are IPs.

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is a poverty-alleviation strategy of the national government which aims to reduce the incidence of poverty in the country by allowing families to send their children to school and keep them healthy. A family that will be able to comply with the said conditions on health and education will receive at most P 1,400 a month. DSWD

PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP

PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP. Monkayo Mayor Joselito B. Brillantes awards a Certificate of Appreciation to Director Priscilla N. Razon of DSWD for the department’s support to the Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Farmers’ Training Program, a project of SM Foundation in partnership with Harbest Agribusiness Corp., Department of Agriculture, Monkayo LGU and DSWD. Some 154 professional and non-professional farmer-beneficiaries and Typhoon Pablo victims from 10 barangays in Monkayo recently graduated from the training.

To date, graduates have already been organized to undertake the DSWD-Sustainable Livelihood Program. The group is currently preparing the documents for the livelihood assistance to be extended by DSWD. Meantime, some graduates have already transferred the technology on high-value crop production by teaching other members in their barangay while other graduates are now cultivating their own backyard garden they could sustain for family consumption or for peddling at the local market.
