HOME FOR THE AGED

The center is a haven for unattached, abandoned, neglected and homeless older persons who are 60 years old and above. It is located in Visayan Village, Tagum City and maintains an extension residential facility at Barangay San Jose, Monkayo, Compostela Valley.   It is one of the three (3) government-run centers for older persons and the largest in Mindanao.  The center started with only three residents in 1981 then braced to cater to over a hundred in the 1990s and seventy five in 2009.

Apart from its being a residential facility, the home also serves as a social laboratory for studies on ageing and as a prototype for LGUs and NGOs who wanted to replicate at their level.   The home accepts student nurses, medical technologists, social workers, trained caregivers and other students of allied courses to practice and further their knowledge and skills along geriatric care and in the management of older persons with Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease..

The center has established a very strong network, support and partnership with the Tagum Friends of the Home Foundation, Inc. chaired by Mr. Pedro B. San Jose, other private groups, academe, non-government, peoples and civic organizations and the local government units as well.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

The center provides institutionalized residential care programs and services to older persons such as counseling, case conference, family dialogue, group session, outreach to families for reintegration, homelife care, medical care, dietary, literacy sessions, productivity development and occupational therapy. Likewise, the residents participate in social, religious, cultural and vocational activities to enhance their social, physical and psychological functioning
