The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program inaugurated yesterday, July 29, 2024, the Multi-Purpose Building in Brgy. Union, Monkayo, Davao de Oro worth PHP 1,054,550.00.

Funded primarily by the National Community-Driven Development Program-Additional Financing (NCDDP-AF) modality of KALAHI-CIDSS, the project received PHP 696,988.00 from the program. Additional contributions came from the Municipal Government of Monkayo, which provided PHP 310,512.00, and the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Union, which contributed PHP 47,050.00.

Brgy. Union, with a population of 8,316 as determined by the 2020 Census, represents 8.85% of the total population of Monkayo. The area is predominantly inhabited by Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities, who rely largely on farming for their livelihoods.

The newly constructed multi-purpose building will serve as a crucial hub for the community, providing a space for assemblies, meetings, and various indoor activities. This infrastructure is expected to enhance community engagement, foster social cohesion, and support the delivery of essential services.

Local officials, community volunteers, and residents attended the event, expressing their gratitude and optimism for the benefits the building will bring. The project not only provides a physical space for gatherings but also symbolizes the collective effort to address poverty and promote inclusive growth.

Moving forward, the DSWD XI and its partners continue to prioritize initiatives that foster community-driven development, ensuring that even the most remote and marginalized areas receive the support they need to thrive.
