The Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) Chief of Nuevo Iloco in Mawab, Davao de Oro, Hon. Rhodel C. Corpuz, became emotional when discussing their subproject during a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS). The FGD, conducted by the Regional Program Management Office (RPMO) with representatives from the National Program Management Office (NPMO) of KALAHI-CIDSS, aimed to assess the program’s impact and implementation process from April 13-16, 2024.
“Sa wala pako nahimong Punong Barangay, usa ko ka community volunteer sa una sa KALAHI-CIDSS. Bisan tuod wala mibarug ang subproyekto nga among giduso kaniadto tungod sa mga kakulian nga dili namo kontrolado, wala mi nagpakawala sa paglaum,” (Before I became Punong Barangay, I was a community volunteer at the beginning of KALAHI-CIDSS. Although the subproject we previously advocated for was not realized due to constraints beyond our control, we did not lose hope), said Corpuz.
As the former Chairperson of the Barangay Development Council-Technical Working Group (BDC-TWG) of KALAHI-CIDSS in their barangay, Corpuz and the entire council fought for their proposed Barangay Isolation Unit (BIU) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the challenges, Corpuz and their council continued to push for identified priority subprojects in their community. Their dedication and perseverance are now bringing their long-hoped subproject closer to realization.
As the isolation facility is no longer needed, Corpuz’s new administration after winning the 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) is advocating for a multi-purpose building that will serve as an assembly area, events venue, and more.
“Akong dako nga pagpasalamat sa DSWD pinaagi sa KALAHI-CIDSS tungod kay hayag na gyud ang kasulbaran sa among mga problema. Akong pangamuyo nga daghan pa unta nga mga subproyekto sa KALAHI-CIDSS ang muabot sa among lugar kay andam kami nga mudawat, muatiman, ug mupadayon niini,” (I am deeply thankful to DSWD through KALAHI-CIDSS because we now have a clearer solution to our problem. I pray that more KALAHI-CIDSS subprojects will come to our community because we are ready to receive, care for, and sustain them), added Corpuz.
FGDs like these serve as a crucial platform for beneficiaries of KALAHI-CIDSS to voice their concerns and express their gratitude for the projects they have received. They ensure that community needs are heard and addressed, fostering a collaborative environment for continuous development. (DSWD FO XI/EMCJr)
