In a concerted effort to tackle pressing issues of food security and water scarcity exacerbated by climate change and disasters, various government agencies and departments in Davao de Oro came together for the Coordination and Orientation of the Risk Resiliency Program Through Cash-For-Training and Work (RRP-CFTW) under the Project LAWA at BINHI (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished) for Fiscal Year 2024 implementation on April 3, 2024.

Representatives from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO), and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI gathered to strategize and collaborate on the implementation of the program.

The presence of Josephine M. Frasco, the Head of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), emphasized the shared commitment of the participating agencies and departments to finding sustainable solutions. Together, they recognize the urgency of action in mitigating the impacts of climate change and disasters on the region’s food and water resources.

Karen C. Gayonan, the project focal, facilitated discussions and knowledge sharing among attendees, emphasizing the importance of collaborative approaches in addressing complex issues.

Davao de Oro municipalities including Monkayo, Laak, and Compostela accepted the challenge last year to host the pilot implementation of Project LAWA with a promising result as evidenced by the pilot implementation assessment and evaluation conducted by the partner academe, The Rizal Memorial Colleges, Inc.

As stakeholders reflect on the outcomes of the event, it is evident that strategic planning and concerted efforts are vital in overcoming the challenges posed by climate change and disasters. By fostering collaboration and exchanging ideas, Davao de Oro and DSWD XI are taking significant steps toward building a more resilient and sustainable environment for its residents.
