To uplift vulnerable communities and enhance their ability to cope with climate change, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office XI (DSWD FO XI) conducted a Cash-for-Training (CFT) activity under the Risk Resiliency Program – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation’s (RRP-CCAM) Project LAWA at BINHI from May 5 to 8, 2025, in Calinan District, Davao City.

A total of 250 beneficiaries—50 each from Barangays Biao Joaquin, Dominga, Inayangan, Lamanan, and Saloy—participated in the four-day training aimed at equipping participants with practical skills in climate change adaptation, sustainable agriculture, water resource management, and disaster risk reduction.

DSWD XI’s Jonaire E. Concepcion led the activity with CSWDO staff, including Jupanie Simpao and Flordeliz Cañada. CSWDO-Calinan social workers and CAO technicians offered technical and on-site support.

“Ang tumong dili lamang sa pagpanday og long-term nga kalig-on o resilience pinaagi sa capacity building kondili paghatag usab og hinanaling pinansyal nga suporta samtang sila makakat-on (The goal is not only to build long-term resilience through capacity development but also to provide immediate financial support during the learning process),” shared PDO Concepcion. He noted that the program promotes self-reliance and encourages the adoption of climate-smart practices that can be sustained beyond the training period.

This CFT intervention stands as both a livelihood booster and a platform to enhance community preparedness for climate-related challenges—marking another significant milestone in the implementation of Project LAWA at BINHI in Davao City.
