As part of its commitment to strengthening community resilience and sustainable livelihoods, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI implemented a Cash-for-Training (CFT) activity under Project LAWA at BINHI of the Risk Resiliency Program – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM) in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental.

Held on April 16, 2025, at the Evacuation Center in Barangay Kinanga, the training involved 100 participants—50 beneficiaries from Barangay Lawa and 50 from Barangay Nueva Villa. The activity aimed to boost participants’ capacity for sustainable livelihood, improve employability, and enhance community-level resilience against climate-related risks.

The initiative was spearheaded by Jo Ann V. Labio (DSWD XI, Project Development Officer II) in collaboration with local partner agencies: Paul Same L. Maling from the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAGRO), Jay D. Moro from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and Vigilio Angos and Jonissa Malbino from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).

Through focused, hands-on sessions, participants gained practical knowledge in climate-smart agriculture, sustainable fishing, and community-based disaster preparedness—skills aimed not only at day-to-day survival but at fostering long-term economic empowerment.

Project LAWA and BINHI continue to uphold DSWD XI’s commitment to building resilient, self-reliant communities, enabling the people of Don Marcelino to rise above poverty and face the challenges of climate change with strength and capability.
