A total of 700 beneficiaries from District 1 of Davao Oriental participated in a Cash-for-Training (CFT) activity on April 16, 2025, under the Project LAWA at BINHI of the Risk Resiliency Program – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM). Held at the Municipal Gymnasium in Barangay Poblacion, Boston, the training aimed to strengthen local capacities in addressing climate-related risks and enhancing sustainable livelihoods.

The activity introduced practical, science-based knowledge on climate adaptation, covering sustainable farming for high-value crops, tilapia production, disaster risk resiliency, DSWD mandates, and orientations on PCIC, RSBSA, and FISHR. It also emphasized the goals and long-term impact of Project LAWA at BINHI and each participant’s role in sustaining it.

Training was led by DSWD XI’s Ras Landigan (PDO II) and Howell C. Gumanay (PDO I), with support from MSWDO’s Maricel Dacuycuy and Manilyn Monredondo, and Executive Assistant/MENRO-MIO Head Judith B. Castres. Technical assistance came from MAGRO’s Roseller T. Fanilag, Charlo M. Oliveros, Arnel C. Pabulario, and Algie O. Ferrel; MEO’s Engr. Mae C. Bagiohanon; and MDRRMO’s Cheng Ramos.

“Through Project LAWA and BINHI, we are not just offering short-term assistance. We are empowering communities to protect their resources, adapt to climate change, and build sustainable futures. Training is essential because it helps beneficiaries develop the skills they need to build more sustainable and resilient futures.” Landigan said.

This initiative reflects the strong collaboration between national and local stakeholders in advancing inclusive climate resilience and ensuring that vulnerable communities are equipped to face present and future environmental challenges.
