As part of its commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI conducted a Cash-for-Training (CFT) activity on April 4, 2025, in Barangay Pongpong, Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental. The event was part of Project LAWA at BINHI under the Risk Resiliency Program for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM).

A total of 300 beneficiaries from the barangays of Pongpong, Buca, Kinilidan, Datu Daligasao, and San Antonio participated in the day-long event. The activity forms part of the implementation of Project LAWA at BINHI under the Risk Resiliency Program for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM).

Topics included environmental protection, sustainable agriculture, and disaster preparedness—crucial areas that strengthen community cohesion and resilience. In addition, participants received financial support through the CFT scheme, helping them address immediate needs while investing in long-term self-reliance.

The initiative also served as a venue for dialogue and collaboration between residents and resource speakers, reinforcing community solidarity. Experts included Lois Rey Gregorio (BFAR), Rhoda Mae Abuhasim (MENRO), Wendell T. Albasin and Cornelio Pongase (MAO), Ruchelle Tahir and Ariel Lubalan (MSWDO), Reynante Briones (MDRRMO), and Junrey Turtor (PCIC).

By combining climate-resilient practices with livelihood enhancement, DSWD XI ensures that families not only survive but thrive—strengthening their role in building safer, healthier, and more socially empowered communities.
