To showcase the vital programs and services of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XI, an engaging Advocacy Fair was held today, March 26, 2025, at the DSWD XI Regional Office. Marking the third day of the agency’s 74th anniversary celebration, the event welcomed 150 students from various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across the region for an immersive learning experience.

Participating schools included Davao del Norte State College, Ateneo de Davao University, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao, Assumption College of Davao, Holy Cross of Davao College, Rizal Memorial Colleges, Jose Maria College, and the University of Mindanao.

The fair aimed to raise awareness and deepen understanding of DSWD XI’s key initiatives, such as poverty alleviation, social welfare programs, disaster response, and community development. It was specifically designed for college students in Humanities and Social Sciences, recognizing them as future leaders, potential “angels in red vests,” and advocates in the digital age.

Before the tour, students were introduced to the history of DSWD XI and encouraged to become advocates of accurate information through the Tamang Tulong sa Tamang Impormasyon (3Ti) Campaign.

The tour provided students with a hands-on experience, guiding them through different office areas where each program and service was creatively showcased through informative materials, interactive displays, and engaging discussions. Each office decorated its respective area, creating an inviting atmosphere that sparked curiosity and encouraged deeper engagement with the department’s work.

Through this experience, attendees explored how DSWD XI supports marginalized communities and uplifts the lives of vulnerable sectors through its diverse programs.

During the feedback session, Clarence Justine Abayon, a 2nd-year Social Work student from Ateneo de Davao University, shared how the activity broadened his perspective on DSWD’s mission.

“There are actually a lot of things that I have learned from the different programs and services of DSWD. One thing that struck me was that story of one  of the beneficiaries wherein her life was transformed because of the services and programs of DSWD, it’s actually a powerful testament. I hope it will also remind us to thrive and aim for excellence,” he said.

The event also highlighted DSWD XI’s achievements over the past 74 years, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to providing quality social services to the people of the region.

“We are excited to engage the youth and the wider community in understanding the impactful programs and services that DSWD XI offers. This Advocacy Fair Day is a step towards strengthening the connection between the department and the public, fostering awareness, education, and collaboration for social welfare and development,” said Michelle Franca, Regional Information Officer of DSWD XI.

DSWD XI encourages everyone to stay informed and engaged as it continues to serve the region, ensuring that the most vulnerable sectors receive the support they need.
