The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI, through its Risk Resiliency Program – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Disaster Risk Reduction (RRP-CCAM DRR) of the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), conducted a preparatory consultation and consultative planning with the partner City Technical Working group (CTWG) on February 11, 2025, in Mati City, Davao Oriental.

The meeting aimed to provide updates on the implementation status of Project LAWA at BINHI under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) funds. It also sought to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the TWG in ensuring the long-term success and sustainability of the project.

The activity resulted in a productive planning session, the establishment of key agreements, and the formulation of a detailed schedule of activities. It also addressed challenges in project implementation and fostered innovative ideas for best practices and future courses of action.

Participants included representatives from DSWD Field Office XI: Ras Landigan, Project Development Officer II; and Howell Gumanay, Project Development Officer I. Also in attendance were CTWG members: Crystil May Luzon, Administrative Officer/CSWDO; Alrey Paterno, Engineer II/CEO; Romel Avance, CAGRO; Roel Diuyan, Administrative Officer/CENRO; Albert Louie Villar Jr., CIO; and Charliemagne Bagasol of CDRRMO.

The Project LAWA at BINHI program implementers continued their visits to various target local government units (LGUs) in the region to establish partnerships and plan the project’s implementation in these areas.

Project LAWA at BINHI is a risk-resiliency initiative of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) aimed at building climate- and disaster-resilient communities. It supports the construction of water reservoirs to help communities manage challenges brought by both dry spells and the rainy season.
