The Barangay Poblacion in Mawab, Davao de Oro, celebrated a significant milestone with the launch of the Mawab Plants and Flowers SLP Association’s Flower Production Project. Funded under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI through its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP). The project received seed capital amounting to Php 560,000,00 on January 13, 2025.

This project marks the beginning of a community-driven effort to uplift the lives of its 28 members and stimulate the local economy. The launch event featured a blessing ceremony for the project and was graced by the Municipal Mayor of Mawab, Hon. Ruperto S. Gonzaga III.

The Flower Production Project was conceptualized after a thorough assessment of viable business opportunities in the municipality. With support from the Local Government Unit (LGU), the association was provided a dedicated space to establish their enterprise. They have since constructed a greenhouse to cultivate vibrant Bougainvillea flowers, which will be nurtured by the association members.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has also contributed significantly by conducting training sessions on marketing strategies. These workshops aim to equip the association with skills to promote their products locally and online, ensuring a wider reach for their business.

The association is led by a president with extensive knowledge of flower cultivation and management, providing strong leadership as they pioneer the first flower production business in Mawab’s market.
