A total of 200 residents from Barangays Dalagdag, Talomo River, and Cawayan in Davao City were empowered through a four-day Cash-for-Training (CFT) initiative under the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office XI’s (DSWD XI) Project LAWA at BINHI, held from April 29 to May 2, 2025.

The activity, implemented in partnership with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the City Agriculturist’s Office (CAO), aimed to provide short-term financial support while equipping vulnerable communities with essential skills in climate change adaptation, disaster preparedness, and sustainable agricultural practices.

DSWD XI Project Development Officer Jonaire E. Concepcion led the initiative alongside CSWDO staff Jupanie Simpao, Flordeliz Cañada, Felice Marie Goles, and Marilyn Caguil. Agricultural experts Carlos John Necor and Ar Jay Maravillas from CAO provided technical inputs on vegetable farming and fisheries, including Tilapia culture and water harvesting techniques.

The Cash-for-Training (CFT) served as a platform for transforming participants into active agents of community resilience. By integrating climate-sensitive livelihood practices such as communal gardening and water resource management, the project not only addressed immediate economic needs but also laid the groundwork for long-term self-reliance and environmental stewardship in Davao City’s upland barangays.
