With the pressing need to equip rural communities against the challenges of climate change, Project LAWA at BINHI rolled out its Cash-for-Training (CFT) initiative on April 22, 2025, at the Upper Bala and Balnate Gyms in the municipality of Magsaysay. The training gathered 100 beneficiaries from nearby barangays for a day of learning, empowerment, and climate-focused development.

The Cash-for-Training (CFT) component of Project LAWA at BINHI serves as a pivotal livelihood intervention by equipping beneficiaries with practical skills in sustainable agriculture and disaster risk reduction. Through this initiative, participants deepen their understanding of climate change adaptation strategies, enabling them to apply these practices in their daily lives and community projects. By fostering both environmental awareness and practical competencies, the CFT program not only enhances individual capacities but also strengthens community resilience and promotes sustainable living.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its project development officers, and was supported by a wide network of stakeholders including the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), and the local agrivet company TATEH.

The training aimed to foster a sense of responsibility, ownership, and commitment among participants. They were oriented on their roles within the project and how their active involvement could contribute to the long-term sustainability of both ther associations and the broader goals of Project LAWA at BINHI.

As Davao del Sur continues to face climate-related challenges, the success of this training affirms the power of inclusive, community-based approaches in building climate-resilient futures. Through these efforts, communities are not only prepared—they are empowered.
