The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI has introduced the Magulang Para sa Pag-Unlad ng Bata (MaPangBata) Module to help parents strengthen their relationships with their children. This initiative, part of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), aims to teach parents essential skills to support their children’s growth and well-being.

The MaPangBata Module is based on the International Child Development Program (ICDP), which focuses on improving communication and bonding between parents and children. Through this module, parents will learn how to provide emotional support, encourage learning, and nurture their children positively. The first phase of this program will be implemented for 4Ps SET 12 households across the Davao Region.

Developed in partnership with Save the Children Philippines, the module will be included in the monthly Family Development Sessions (FDS) for 4Ps beneficiaries. To prepare for this, DSWD XI conducted a three-day training from March 5 to 7, 2025, in Tagum City. Social workers and program facilitators received training to effectively deliver the module in their communities. They will later train more field implementers in different provinces.

Diana O. Mejorada, the Regional FDS Focal Person, emphasized that this module strengthens 4Ps’ goal of supporting Filipino families. “By integrating MaPangBata into the FDS, we are helping parents build loving and supportive environments for their children,” she said.Certified ICDP Trainers from the Davao Region led the training, ensuring that facilitators are well-equipped to guide parents. The four-part module will be rolled out from June to September2025, helping families improve their parenting practices and create a nurturing home environment. This initiative reinforces the 4Ps’ mission of breaking the cycle of poverty by investing in children’s health, education, and overall development.
