In a bid to foster climate resilience and livelihood enhancement in vulnerable communities, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI successfully conducted a Cash-for-Training (CFT) activity for Project LAWA at BINHI beneficiaries on April 3, 2025, at the Barangay Bolila Gym in Malita, Davao Occidental.

A total of 150 beneficiaries from Barangays Datu Danwata, Kilalag, and Pangaleon attended the training, which focused on sustainable aquaculture, agriculture, and environmental management. Participants also signed the Deed of Usufruct and Letters of Consent to secure formal land use agreements for project implementation.

The initiative aimed to build the capacity of local residents by equipping them with practical skills in fisheries and agriculture, enabling them to pursue sustainable livelihoods. Moreover, it emphasized the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices in natural resource use, with support from the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAGRO) and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO).

Experts from partner agencies led the training sessions. These included representatives from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), TATEH Aquafeeds, the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAGRO), the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO). DSWD project development officers Jo Ann V. Labio and Dale Renan I. Libay facilitated the activity.

Project LAWA at BINHI under the Risk Resiliency Program for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM) continues to empower communities across the Davao Region by combining climate-responsive strategies with economic empowerment.
