The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI, through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services or KALAHI-CIDSS program, conducted a two-day assessment and orientation for a new batch of potential beneficiaries under the Cash-for-Work (CFW) for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) program on April 10–11, 2025, at Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) in Digos City.

The KALAHI-CIDSS CFW for HEI program is a collaborative initiative between DSWD and Higher Education Institutions, designed to provide short-term employment opportunities and temporary cash assistance to undergraduate students and unemployed fresh graduates from low-income families. This component of the broader KALAHI-CIDSS program not only helps beneficiaries earn income to support their education but also fosters youth engagement in addressing societal issues.

During the assessment, DSWD XI personnel conducted eligibility screenings, document verification, and orientations to ensure that the targeted individuals meet the program’s requirements. Beneficiaries will receive cash assistance in exchange for rendering agreed-upon community works, services, or tasks within the institution or nearby communities.

The CFW for HEI initiative is aligned with the core mandate of KALAHI-CIDSS—community-driven development—and aims to give young people a platform to contribute meaningfully to interventions that tackle local development issues. By offering economic opportunities, the program helps cover beneficiaries’ day-to-day expenses, supports their educational aspirations, and promotes civic responsibility.
