The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI, through the Cash-for-Training (CFT) component of Project LAWA at BINHI, advanced its commitment to grassroots development by equipping 150 residents of Barangay Mabila, Sarangani, Davao Occidental with vital livelihood skills. The initiative, held on April 8, 2025, marks a significant step toward empowering vulnerable communities through sustainable, climate-resilient means of livelihood.
This training, held in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA), Municipal Agriculture Office (MAGRO), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), reflects a concerted effort to strengthen the self-sufficiency and adaptive capacity of vulnerable communities in Davao Occidental.

Far beyond a one-time training, the CFT activity provided residents of Barangay Mabila with practical knowledge on climate-smart agriculture, sustainable fishing, and other livelihood practices tailored to their local context. These skills not only help families put food on the table but also foster long-term economic resilience.
“Through Project LAWA and BINHI, we are not just giving short-term assistance. We are empowering communities to secure their food sources, protect their environment, and adapt to the changing climate. Training is essential because it helps beneficiaries develop the skills they need to build more sustainable and resilient futures.” said Karen C. Gayonan, DSWD XI Project Development Officer III.
Local residents expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting how it aligns with their aspirations for a more secure and self-reliant community. With hands-on guidance from experts—including representatives from DSWD, DA, BFAR, MAGRO, and MSWDO—the training boosted both knowledge and confidence among participants.

Project LAWA at BINHI, implemented under the Risk Resiliency Program – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM), underscores the value of inclusive and community-driven development. The activity marks a concrete step toward building climate-resilient livelihoods across Davao Occidental, starting with the people who need it most.
