The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI, through its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), recently inaugurated and blessed the Bantol Farmers SLP Association’s water system project on September 2, 2024, in Sitio Mawato, Barangay Bantol, Marilog District, Davao City.
Funded by the SLP with an allocation of Php 450,000, the project seeks to address the long-standing issue of limited water supply for farming in the area. Beyond providing access to water for agricultural use, the initiative is expected to generate income for the association by offering water services to the broader community. The improved water access will directly enhance rice production and allow for the expansion of cultivated land, benefiting not only the 30 members of the Bantol Farmers SLP Association but also other local farmers in Barangay Bantol. With sufficient water supply being critical for agricultural success, the project is set to play a significant role in improvement of the local livelihoods.
Moreover, the water system will support the implementation of Project Lawa, an initiative under the DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), further strengthening the community’s resilience by ensuring reliable water access in times of need.
Key officials present at the ceremony included DSWD XI Promotive Services Chief Sheryl Ann R. Dumalogdog, City Coordinator Rosa Ana C. Gado, and representatives from the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Bantol and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
The Davao City Government, through its CSWDO, together with the BLGU of Bantol, has committed to providing ongoing support for the project. This includes assistance in monitoring its progress and ensuring its long-term sustainability through continuous development and technical support.
This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of both local and national agencies to uplift the livelihood of farmers in Barangay Bantol and contribute to the community’s overall economic development.
