The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) inaugurated two newly constructed drainage canals in Barangay Bongabong and Barangay Bongbong, Pantukan, Davao de Oro on August 13 and 14, 2024 respectively.
In Barangay Bongabong, the DSWD Field Office XI, alongside community leaders and residents, officially turned over a 200-meter drainage canal located at Purok 3, Sangi, on August 13, 2024. The project, valued at PHP1,256,551.67, was realized through the collective efforts of community volunteers, who were praised for their dedication to enhancing local infrastructure.
Oscar S. Llenado, Chairperson of the Barangay Technical Working Group, highlighted the project’s significance during the ceremony.
“Today is the proudest day for us volunteers and beneficiaries. We believe this drainage canal will greatly reduce flooding and enhance safety in our community, showcasing the power of collaboration,” Llenado remarked.
Similarly, Barangay Bongbong saw the inauguration of its drainage canal at Purok 4, worth PHP1,198,704.46, officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the reading of a brass marker.
Punong Barangay Ebrahim M. Pinute, who was present at the event, acknowledged the invaluable support from all stakeholders, including LGU authorities, barangay officials, and community volunteers.
“The completion of this project is a significant relief for residents who have endured years of waterlogging and seasonal floods,” said Pinute.
Both drainage projects underscore the commitment of DSWD Field Office XI and the local communities to address environmental challenges proactively.
