The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD XI) conducted a site validation on July 17, 2024, as part of the preparatory steps for the completion of Project LAWA at BINHI (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency Through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished). This initiative is a component of the Risk Resiliency Program through Cash-For-Training and Work (RRP-CFTW), designed to address food insecurity and water scarcity exacerbated by calamities and climate change. The project aims to combat hunger, alleviate poverty, and reduce economic vulnerability.
The site validation and assessment for Project LAWA at BINHI were spearheaded by John Vergil L. Salido, the focal person for the Risk Resiliency Program-Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM). The team included officers from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAGRO), the Municipal Environmental Office (MENRO), and the Municipal Disaster Reduction and Response Management Office (MDRRMO). They covered three barangays in Carmen, Davao del Norte: Mabuhay, Magsaysay, and Katabang.
In Barangay Mabuhay, the team engaged with the Mabuhay Fantastic Association (SLP) and the Mabuhay Farmers Association. In Barangay Magsaysay, they met with the Farmers Association Resilient Association, and in Barangay Katabang, they connected with the Taba Growers Association.
These validations underscore DSWD’s commitment to community empowerment and sustainable rural development through livelihood projects under Project LAWA at BINHI. DSWD XI aims to foster resilience and promote sustainable practices in vulnerable communities by addressing critical issues such as food insecurity and water scarcity.
The successful validation of these sites marks a significant step towards the project’s completion, ensuring that the objectives of mitigating the impacts of climate change and enhancing community resilience are met. This initiative reflects DSWD XI’s dedication to improving the quality of life for impoverished communities through targeted interventions and collaborative efforts. (DSWD XI/RSD)
