The Local Government Unit of Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental through its Vice Mayor, Mark Edward Anthony M. Maruya, expressed its full support for the full-blown implementation of Project LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) at BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency Through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI under the Disaster Response Management Division, during the coordination meeting on June 6, 2024 in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental.

“Ang kalampusan sa Project LAWA at BINHI nagsalig sa atong hiniusang paningkamot, ug akong gidasig ang tanan nga magtinabangay padulong sa tumong sa pagpalambo sa komunidad ug sa pagpatunhay sa kinaiyahan,” (The success of Project LAWA at BINHI relies on our collective efforts. I encouraged everyone to work together towards the common goal of our community development and environmental sustainability) Hon. Maruya stated.

Karen C. Gayonan, the focal person for the Risk Resiliency Program (RRP-CCAM), led the coordination and orientation of Project LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) at BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency Through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished) together with Jo Ann V. Labio and Jan Emmanuel G. Panuncia, the Davao Occidental RRP focal persons from the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD).

The event was attended by key stakeholders from various Local Government Units (LGUs) led by the municipal vice mayor of Don Marcelino, representatives coming from partner government agencies from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAGRO and MAO), the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO), the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), the Municipal Gender and Development Head (MGADH-MCDO-MIV).

The said Project LAWA at BINHI is targeting 300 partner-beneficiaries who will undergo a series of training and capacity-building sessions through Cash-For-Training and Work (RRP-CFTW) to enhance sustainability and establish a sense of ownership in the community. (DSWD XI / RSD)
