The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI spearheaded a coordination and orientation meeting with the Municipal Social Development Officer and potential stakeholders from the Local Government Unit of Malita, Davao Occidental to advance the implementation of Project LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) at BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency Through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished) in the municipality on June 4, 2024. 

Karen C. Gayonan, the focal person for the Risk Resiliency Program (RRP-CCAM), led the event along with Davao Occidental RRP focal persons Jo Ann V. Labio and Jan Emmanuel G. Panuncia of the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD). 

The event brought together key stakeholders from various government offices and agencies in Davao Occidental. Attendees included representatives from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAGRO and MAO), Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO), Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), Municipal Gender and Development Head (MGADH-MCDO-MIV), and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Malita, Davao del Sur.

Gayonan emphasized the role of inter-agency collaboration in addressing water sufficiency and food security challenges through this convergence program under RRP-CCAM. 

“Project LAWA at BINHI is a testament to our commitment to sustainable development. It requires the collective effort of our government agencies and local stakeholders to ensure its successful implementation in the community,” Gayonan stated. (DSWD XI / RSD)
