Following the destructive impact of a Shear Line and a trough of the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) in Davao Region in January and February 2024, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) conducted the Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) payout from April 22 to 26, 2024 in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental disbursing a total of PHP76,622,280.00 to 7,693 beneficiaries.

Led by the Chief of the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) of DSWD XI, Dahlia S. Padillo, the team systemically held the payouts to 20 barangays in the Municipality of Governor Generoso for only four days.

Paciana P. Alarcon, a beneficiary of the ECT payout, expressed gratitude for the program, emphasizing its significant assistance in covering living expenses and medical needs. Alarcon’s testimonial highlights the program’s tangible impact on individuals facing challenges, particularly due to age-related ailments.

“Nagpasalamat ako sa DSWD kay ang kwarta nga akong nadawat makatabang sa akong panginabuhian ug pagpatambal sa akong mga sakit. Karon, gipugngan na ako sa paglakaw tungod sa akong edad ug aduna usab ako ginabati sa akong tuhod,” (I am very grateful to DSWD because I will use this for my medication especially now that I really struggle to walk because of my age and severely aching knees), said Alarcon.

The swift delivery of the ECT payout in Governor Generoso mirrors DSWD’s unwavering dedication to providing prompt and substantial aid during emergencies. Such initiatives underscore the vital role of social welfare programs in safeguarding the well-being of Filipinos, particularly in times of natural disasters. (DSWD XI/RSD/EMCJr)
