The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI conducted a program implementation review for the Risk Resiliency Program-Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation-Disaster Risk Reduction (RRP-CCAM) in the provinces of Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte, and in Davao City on December 12-14, 2023 at the Ritz Hotel, Garden Oases, Davao City.
This intensive three-day review brought together representatives from DSWD XI, local government units (LGUs), concerned national government agencies (NGAs), and RRP-CCAM implementers to assess the program’s progress, identify challenges, and chart a path for sustainable activities.
The RRP-CCAM program plays a crucial role in empowering vulnerable communities to cope with the increasing threats of climate change and natural disasters.
Through initiatives like cash-for-work programs, training and education workshops, and community organizing efforts, the program equips residents with the tools and knowledge they need to prepare for and respond to climate-related emergencies.
The success of the RRP-CCAM program hinges on strong collaboration between DSWD, LGUs, NGAs, and community members. The program review served as a platform to strengthen these partnerships and ensure that future climate resilience efforts are tailored to the specific needs of each community.
DSWD XI Assistant Regional Director and concurrent Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) Chief Dahlia S. Padillo challenged everyone to continue their efforts and strengthen their implementation.
“Ang challenge sa atong tanan kay ang padayonon ang atong efforts ug pahingusgan pa ang implementasyon sa atong matag probinsya sa musunod nga tuig, (The challenge for us all is to continue our efforts and to strengthen our implementation on our respective provinces next year),” Padillo said.
By a convergence effort, DSWD XI and its partners are building a safer and more sustainable future for the people of Davao Region. The RRP-CCAM program is a testament to the department’s commitment to empowering communities and mitigating the devastating effects of climate change. (DSWD FO XI/EMCJr)
