In the aftermath of Tropical Storm “Kabayan,” rendering Brgy. Pichon in the municipality of Caraga, Davao Oriental inaccessible due to widespread landslides, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI, in coordination with the Office of Civil Defense XI, sent a team via the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Black Hawk helicopter to deliver the 1,404 family food packs to the isolated victims.

Following the storm’s onslaught on December 17, 2023, multiple landslides severed access to said barangay. Faced with impassable roads, the decision was made to deploy an unconventional but efficient mode of aid delivery.

On December 21, 2023, the Black Hawk helicopter was commissioned to airlift the needed family food packs.

Upon arriving at Caraga Elementary School, personnel from DSWD XI, OCD XI, the Provincial Government, the AFP, and residents gathered to haul the prepositioned goods to the helicopter to be transported to said barangay.

This aerial relief endeavor stands not solely as a logistical feat but as a responsive action to the urgent request for assistance made by the Provincial Government on behalf of the barangay’s distressed population.

The success of this operation underscores the potency of collaborative efforts and humanitarian commitment, overcoming physical barriers to deliver a resounding message of communal support.

It exemplifies the unwavering dedication of governmental entities and citizens alike to stand united in times of crisis, portraying the spirit of “Bayanihan” illuminating the path toward rehabilitation and cohesion amid the devastation. ### (DSWD FO XI/EMCJr)
