Davao City, July 5, 2023 – In observance of the World Day Against Child Labor with the local theme, “Buong Bansa, Lahat ng Bata, Sama-Sama para sa Batang Malaya,” the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI held a children’s congress at the Holy Cross of Davao College in partnership with various national government agencies (NGAs) on June 30, 2023. 

To advocate against child labor in the country, DSWD XI strongly unites with other NGAs in the region in providing programs and services to reduce cases of child labor.

Present in the activity were other NGAs including the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI represented by Eduardo P. Monreal, City Government of Davao Councilor Hon. Trisha Villafuerte, Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) Davao City represented by PMaj Gillian Birondo, Holy Cross of Davao College representative Romel F. Momo, Special Office for Children’s Concern (SOCC) Head Consorcia B. Ronquillo, and DSWD XI represented by Carol F. Isugan. 

An orientation on children’s rights was conducted in the morning including the regional situation on child labor. Children participants also interacted with other children through a workshop and their outputs were presented afterward. 

During the Open Forum (Talakayan) in which participating agencies served as panelists, some children asked questions regarding their personal situations. The children got replies from the NGAs which also offered their programs and services to the parents and guardians.

All participating agencies vowed to continue advocating against child labor in the region and to strengthen the campaign against these cases in the region. ###
