With its continuing efforts to contribute to the government’s peace agenda, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was recognized by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) for its invaluable role as a peace partner during the Peace Partners’ Recognition Day held on May 16 at the  Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

The DSWD was conferred with an award under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) Implementing Department/Joint Normalization Committee Secretariat category along with other individuals, organizations, and institutions who went an extra mile in pushing forward the Comprehensive Philippine Peace Process under the Duterte Administration.

As the lead agency in social protection, the DSWD ensures the provision of social welfare and development programs and services to the former rebels and former violent extremists and their families, decommissioned combatants, and other insurgency groups. This is done through its various peace-building initiatives geared towards providing an  improved level of well-being to the said individuals and groups as they reintegrate into society.

The DSWD was among the 38 peace partners recognized by OPAPRU, composed of line government agencies, local chief executives, peacebuilders, and advocates.

The Department is committed to implementing the whole-of-nation approach in the provision of a menu of interventions to end all local armed conflicts. ###
