The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) expressed its condolences to the family left behind by Sonya and Frank Gregorio, the mother and son who were fatally shot in Paniqui, Tarlac.

DSWD, through its Field Office (FO) III, immediately reached out to the bereaved family of the victims and extended family food packs and a financial aid amounting to P20,000. The FO will also assess Mr. Florentino Gregorio, husband of Sonya, for the provision of medical assistance.

Likewise, DSWD FO III will also provide psychosocial debriefing to members of the Gregorio family to help them cope with the trauma brought by the unfortunate incident.

The Department is also coordinating with its FO in Region I to ascertain the condition of Frank’s wife and child who are currently staying in Rosales, Pangasinan, for the provision of appropriate assistance.

The FO will continue to monitor the bereaved family to determine additional appropriate interventions for them.

Appeal to stop condemning child of perpetrator

Meanwhile, the DSWD is echoing the appeal to the public of the Council for the Welfare of Children, its attached agency, to stop the condemnation and cyber bullying of the child of the perpetrator.

The Department, as the lead agency in social protection, emphasized that it will put premium on the best interest of the child, including protection from any form of abuse.

The child will undergo psychosocial processing support or psychosocial first aid to help her recover from the trauma.

To date, DSWD, in coordination with the concerned LGU, has facilitated the provision of psychosocial intervention to the child at the Tarlac Provincial Hospital by a resident psychologist.

The Department will provide all assistance within its mandate to ensure that the rights of the child are upheld at all times. ###
