NABUNTURAN, Compostela Valley — Six associations in Maragusan town received on Thursday, February 7, a total of PhP 1.67 million seed capital under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The identified associations were Pagpangandam Sustainable Livelihood Program Association, Abtik Sustainable Livelihood Program Association, Rizmea Sustainable Livelihood Program Association, Kaminarra Sustainable Livelihood Program Association, Triple M Sustainable Livelihood Program Association, and Marangig Sustainable Livelihood Program Association.

The checks were handed over by DSWD assistant regional director Rebecca A. Santamaria in a ceremony held at Barangay New Albay.

According to the Maragusan Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, all the six associations will engage in feeds retailing since their members are into piggeries.

Maragusan Mayor Maricel Colina-Vendiola expressed her gratitude to the DSWD for establishing the pro-poor program.

“Nalipay ko’g dako nga nahatagan ug dakong prebilihiyo ang atong mga katawhan, hilabi na ang 4Ps beneficiaries ug indigents alang sa ilang panginabuhian,” Mayor Vendiola said. (I am very happy that our constituents, especially the 4Ps beneficiaries and indigents, have been given this big opportunity for their livelihood.)

Like other government funded program, the mayor hoped that the beneficiaries will take good care of the livelihood project.

The SLP is a capability building program for poor, vulnerable and marginalized families and individuals in acquiring necessary assets to engage in and maintain thriving livelihoods that help improve their socioeconomic conditions. (PIA11)
