DSWD beneficiaries graduate from security services, welding

72 beneficiaries of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) from Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS) complete the Community-Based Skills Training Program on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II and Security Services NC I under the supervision and facilitation of Endonela Institute of Technology Foundation, Inc. and Bagwis Security Academy, respectively. Fishing boats for DavOr villages

DSWD leads gender responsive case mgt training

Davao City (DSWD XI) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in partnership with National Association for Social Work Education, Inc. (NASWEI) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) recently conducted a Training on Gender Responsive Case Management for Untrained Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) Faculty of NASWEI.

The training aimed at: 1] advancing Gender Responsive Case Management as a practice model in managing cases of violence against women (VAW); and 2] guiding social work students in the application of various perspectives, concept principles, and tools in managing VAW cases and/or any form of gender-based violence.

Some 30 BSSW faculty of NASWEI school members from Mindanao and Visayas areas attended the five-day capacity building session at Apo View Hotel.

Resource persons were NASWEI-trained BSSW faculty members and Board Members with technical assistance of DSWD Program Management staffs and UNFPA representatives.

Participants were welcomed by Rebecca A. Santamaria, Assistant Regional Director for Operations, DSWD. (DSWD/jbc)

DSWD beneficiaries complete Security Training NC 1

SECURITY SKILLS. 124 Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) program beneficiaries who finished Security Training NC 1 last March 27 take the General Knowledge Examination conducted by the Regional Civil Security Unit of National Police Commission. Following the written exam, the first batch of participants from District 3, Davao City took the Firing Examination.

Currently, participants are preparing for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) National Competency 1 (NC 1) Assessment. Following the training, they were provided a complete set of uniform and license. Some 100 DSWD beneficiaries are set to participate in the next Security Training NC 1 conducted by Bagwis Training Academy. (DSWD)

Sec. Taguiwalo meets new DSWD workers

Davao City (DSWD XI) – Despite her hectic schedule, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo graced the recent Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Orientation with her presence at Grand Menseng Hotel.

Together with DSWD Regional Director Mercedita P. Jabagat, the secretary gladly welcomed the 63 newly hired Project Development Officers (PDOs) and met with the other existing staffs of the program in a brief visit.

With the amount of budget on hand, Secretary Taguiwalo admitted that the program has to double the efforts of utilizing the downloaded budget before June of this year.

She emphasized the PDOs need to coordinate with internal staffs and build relationships among external partners.

The secretary also encouraged all PDOs to use their “utak, puso, at kamay” as a formula in implementing their proposed projects.

She then generously posed with all the members present who grabbed their phones and requested for ‘selfies’ before leaving the venue.

The Secretary then visited the One-Stop Shop at Southern Philippines Medical Center where the Libreng Gamot Para Sa Masa office has been lodged. Earlier, she also attended community events in Maco town, Compostela Valley. (DSWD)

Lingap Sa Masa kicks off

LINGAP SA MASA. Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) interviews a client seeking medicine assistance through Libreng Gamot Para Sa Masa at Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) on Monday.

Lingap Sa Masa is a medicine assistance program of the Office of the President implemented by DSWD in partnership with six government hospitals throughout the country. It aims to provide free medicines to indigent Filipinos needing current treatment for illness or injuries.

DSWD regions NCR, 3, 6, 7 and 11 currently undertake the Php 1 billion medicine assistance program. DSWD Davao Region has been allotted Php 150 million to carry out the program with SPMC and DRMC (Davao Regional Medical Center) in Tagum City. (DSWD)

DSWD XI livelihood team recognized in Bangon Kabuhayan 2017

DAVAO CITY (DSWD) – The livelihood unit of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region XI was recognized during the recent Bangon Kabuhayan 2017 “Lig-on nga Kinabuhian: Padayon sa Kauswagan!” at Richville Hotel, Mandaluyong City.

This annual event of the DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) celebrates the successful implementation of livelihood initiatives and recognizes outstanding partnerships organized by different community livelihood associations throughout the country.

The Olaycon Rice Farmers SEA-K Association of Barangay Olaycon, Monkayo, Compostela Valley is the region’s entry to the Micro-Enterprise Development Category.

Led by Regional Director Mercedita P. Jabagat, the regional team was composed of Monkayo program beneficiaries Pedro Bolonos and Rio Albit; and SLP officers Chona L. Castillo, Ronald Ryan R. Cui, Rosa Anna C. Gado, Marissa S. Vaid and Kristelle May O. Cagatin. (DSWD)
