DSWD sets events for Women’s Month

Davao City  -As prime advocate of women’s rights and welfare, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will conduct several activities in observance of the 106th International Women’s Month.

DSWD focal person on women Dalmin Faith A. Igaňa said among the planned activities for the month are: testimony of successful women during Monday convocations, radio guesting at GMA Super Radyo and DXRD Sonshine Radio, Women Bazaar, Parlor Games, Poster Making Contest, Singing Contest and Women’s Day Off (Pamper Day) offering free Massage, Foot Spa, Haircut, Photo Booth, Ice Cream and Lugaw).

The Department will also host an orientation on Sexual Orientation Gender Identity and Expression or SOGIE, Republic Act 8504 or The Philippine AIDS Prevention And Control Act, Solo Parent’s Welfare Act, and on Republic Act 8042 or the Migrant Worker’s Act, Igaňa said.

We will also organize the solo parents of DSWD, Igaňa added.

Meanwhile, DSWD male and female employees will participate in Davao City’s 17th Citywide Women Summit and Early Morning March and in National Youth Commission’s In Her Shoes Walk slated on March  7 from Freedom Park to People’s Park.

Theme for this year is Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda, calling for gender-balance in leadership and decision making positions both in public and private sectors, inclusion of women’s concerns in leadership platforms and in government’s development agenda, and capacitating and preparing women and girls to attain their ambitions.
