Davao City –Led by the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC), an attached agency of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Juvenile Justice Welfare Week observance carries the theme, Bata ay Gabayan, Batas sa Juvenile Justice Bigyang Daan.

Opening the weeklong celebration from October 19 to 23 will be the flag raising ceremonies at city hall which will also feature reading of the proclamation of JJWC Week and a presentation from Bahay Pagasa children.

Following the city hall Monday convocation is a motorcade by council member-agencies from city hall grounds to DSWD Regional Office.

On Thursday, October 22, regional JJWC members and two CICL (children in conflict with the law) will be the resource persons at “I Speak” press conference while radio guesting with DXFE and DXRD Sonshine Radio, and simultaneous symposium in different districts are slated on Friday, October 23.

Members of the regional JJWC are DSWD, City Government, City Social Services and Development Office, Department of Justice, Philippine National Police, Public Attorney’s Office, Department of Health, Department of Education, Department of Interior and Local Government, Commission on Human Rights, Tambayan Children’s Concerns, Mariphil and two youth representatives.

The Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 or Rebuplic Act 9344 establishes a comprehensive juvenile justice and welfare system and covers the different stages involving children at risk and children in conflict with the law, from prevention to rehabilitation and reintegration.  The JJWC was created to ensure effective implementation of RA 9344.
