Davao City -Located at the DSWD Regional Rehabilitation Complex in Bago Oshiro and constructed from an initial budget of Php 7.4 million, the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Mindanao Resource and Operations Center (DSWD-MROC) will be inaugurated Wednesday.

Expected to attend is DSWD Assistant Secretary Rodolfo M. Santos as well as officials of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, DSWD personnel and some members of the media.

Director Priscilla N. Razon of DSWD said, “We have requested for an additional Php 12.4 million from the Central Office to complete the structure and make it fully functional.”

At the groundbreaking rites last year, DSWD Undersecretary Mateo G. Montaňo emphasized that the warehouse will serve not only the Mindanao area but all the other regions in the country requiring emergency assistance.

“We are preparing this warehouse for nationwide operations, set to respond to a bigger scale of disaster operations.”

If at some point, the operations at the national warehouse is hampered due to flooding or earthquake or any other disaster, this warehouse can then supply the needs of the affected populace at NCR, he pointed out.

In the same manner that the warehouses in the Visayas and Luzon can also augment the needs of Mindanao regions when necessary, the Undersecretary added.

DSWD will also be constructing a warehouse in Cebu and Clark Air Base.

The Davao construction was implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways-Davao City District Engineering Office (DPWH-DCDEO).  (DSWD)
