DSWD WAREHOUSE. DSWD Undersecretary Mateo G. Montaňo [third from right] leads the unleashing and laying of the time capsule in the DSWD Mindanao Warehouse for Disaster Operations at the DSWD Rehabilitation Complex, Bago Oshiro on Monday. The undersecretary was assisted by [from left] DSWD Administrative Officer Herbert P. Duron, DPWH District Engineer Fernando Ongkingko, DPWH Director Mariano R. Alquiza, DSWD Director Priscilla N. Razon and DPWH Assistant District Engr. Gregory Yee. With a funding of P7.4 million, the construction is expected to be completed within 90 working days.

In his message, Usec. Montaňo emphasized that the warehouse will serve not only the Mindanao area but all the other regions in the country requiring emergency assistance. “We are preparing this warehouse for nationwide operations, set to respond to a bigger scale of disaster operations.”

If at some point, the operations at the national warehouse is hampered due to flooding or earthquake or any other disaster, this warehouse can then supply the needs of the affected populace at NCR, he pointed out. In the same manner that the warehouses in the Visayas and Luzon can also augment the needs of Mindanao regions when necessary, he said.

DSWD is currently constructing a warehouse in Cebu, Clark Air Base and Davao City. The Davao construction will be undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). DSWD
