DAVAO City –The Kakayahan Regional Abilympics Competition 2014 is set today, July 28 at the TESDA Regional Training Center in Buhisan, Tibungco.

Bearing the theme Talino at Paninindigan ng Taong May Kapansanan, Pasaporte sa Kaunlaran, Kakayahan is a national work skills competition showcasing the distinct capability of Filipino persons with disability (PWDs) as workers and entrepreneurs.

Social welfare department Director Priscilla N. Razon said the select PWDs will participate in Photography, Floral Arrangement, Cake Decoration, Waste Reuse, Painting, Cooking, Creating Web Pages, Desktop Publishing, and English Text Processing.

The 31 participating PWDs have different disabilities but most are orthopedically impaired, Director Razon said.

“This event is one of the highlights in the regional celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week that we celebrate nationwide every July,” she added.

The Abilympics is hosted by DSWD in partnership with the Department of Health and TESDA.

Winners of the regional competition will vie in the national competition in Manila while the national winner will represent the country in the 9th Abilympics in Vietnam in 2015. (DSWD)
